Is there a credit card surcharge for New York transactions?
Updated on Wed, 08 Oct, 2025 at 02:32 PM
Yes. A surcharge is applied to credit card payments for transactions based in New York. This fee helps offset processing costs charged to Sotheby’s by credit card companies. Clients who pay by debit card, wire transfer, or ACH are not charged this fee.
Effective 4 November 2025, the surcharge will increase from 2.5% to 3%. The higher rate applies to any credit card payment processed on or after that date. To avoid the higher rate, clients may wish to pay open invoices early or switch to a different payment method.
Please note: This surcharge does not apply to purchases made through Buy Now or Napa Valley Vintners (NVV) wine.
